'MAYA ANGELOU'S' BEST POEM EVER

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....

enough money within her control to move out
and rent a place of her own,
even if she never wants to or needs to...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....

something perfect to wear if the employer,
or date of her dreams wants to see her in an hour...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ..

a youth she's content to leave behind....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...

a past juicy enough that she's looking forward to
retelling it in her old age....

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE .....

a set of screwdrivers, a cordless drill, and a black lace bra...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....

one friend who always makes her laugh... and one who lets her cry...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ....

a good piece of furniture not previously owned by anyone else in her family...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...

eight matching plates, wine glasses with stems,
and a recipe for a meal,
that will make her guests feel honored...

A WOMAN SHOULD HAVE ...

a feeling of control over her destiny...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

how to fall in love without losing herself..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

how to quit a job,
break up with a lover,
and confront a friend without;
ruining the friendship...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

when to try harder... and WHEN TO WALK AWAY...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

that she can't change the length of her calves,
the width of her hips, or the nature of her parents..

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

that her childhood may not have been perfect...but it's over...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

what she would and wouldn't do for love or more...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...
how to live alone... even if she doesn't like it...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW.. .

whom she can trust,
whom she can't,
and why she shouldn't take it personally...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

where to go...
be it to her best friend's kitchen table..
or a charming Inn in the woods...
when her soul needs soothing...

EVERY WOMAN SHOULD KNOW...

What she can and can't accomplish in a day...
a month...and a year...
Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect.
It means that you have decided to look beyond the imperfections

Thoughts for Today

Birds of a feather flock together, and crap on your car.

When I'm feeling down, I like to whistle. It makes the neighbor's dog run to the end of his chain and gag himself.

A penny saved is a government oversight.

The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing at the right time, but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight, because by then your body and your fat have gotten to be really good friends.

The easiest way to find something lost around the house is to buy a replacement.

He who hesitates is probably right..

Did you ever notice:
The Roman Numerals for forty (40) are ' XL..'

If you think there is good in everybody, you haven't met everybody.

If you can smile when things go wrong, you have someone in mind to blame.

The sole purpose of a child's middle name is so he can tell when he's really in trouble
.

There's always a lot to be thankful for if you take time to look for it. For example I am sitting here thinking how nice it is that wrinkles don't hurt .

Did you ever notice: When you put the 2 words 'The' and 'IRS' together it spells 'Theirs.'

Eventually you will reach a point when you stop lying about your age and start bragging about it.

The older we get, the fewer things seem worth waiting in line for.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know 'why' I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved..

When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to your youth, remember Algebra class.

You know you are getting old when everything either dries up or leaks.

One of the many things no one tells you about aging is that it is such a nice change from being young.

Being young is beautiful, but being old is comfortable.

First you forget names, then you forget faces. Then you forget to pull up your zipper. It's worse when you forget to pull it down.

Long ago when men cursed and beat the ground with sticks, it was called witchcraft. Today, it's called golf.

Dear Lord, keep your arm around my shoulder and your hand over
my mouth...AMEN.

The Guest house

This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness
comes as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture,
still, treat each guest honorably.
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

First Among Equals

Read this amazing book by Jeffrey Archer, who in my opinion, is a master storyteller...

In 1960s four ambitious new MPs take their seats at Westminster. Over three decades they share the explosive passion of the race for power with their wives and families, men and women caught up in an explosive game for the highest stakes of all. But only one man can gain the ultimate goal- the office of the Prime Minister...

A sensational read by a sensational author.

Emily Climbs

Emily Starr was born with the desire to write. As an orphan living on New Moon farm, writing helped her face the lonely, difficult times. But now all her friends are going to high school in nearby Shrewsbury, and her old- fashioned, tyrannical Aunt Elizabeth will only let her go if she promises to stop writing! All the same, this is Emily's first step in the climb to success. Once in town, Emily's activities set the Shrewsbury gossip buzzing. But Emily and her friends are confident- Isle's a born actress, Teddy's set to become a great artist, and rougish Perry has the makings of a brilliant lawyer. When Emily has her poems published and writes fro the town newspaper, success seems to be on its way- and with its first whispers of romance. Then Emily is offered a fabulous opportunity, and she must decide if she wants to change her life forever.

Emily of New Moon

Emily Starr never knew what it was to be lonely- until her beloved father died. Now Emily's an orphan, and her mother's snobbish relatives are taking her to live with them at New Moon farm. She's sure she won't be happy. Emily deals with stiff, stern Aunt Elizabeth and her malicious classmates by holding her head high and using her quick wit. Things begin to change when she makes friends; with Teddy, who does marvelous drawings; with Perry, who's sailed all over the world with his father yet has never been to school; and above all, with Isle, a tomboy with a blazing temper. Amazingly, Emily finds New Moon beautiful and fascinating. With new friends and adventures, Emily might someday think of herself as Emily of New Moon.

L.M. Montgomery

Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on November 30, 1874, in Clifton, prince Edward island, Canada. Although few women of that time received higher education, Maud attended Prince of Wales College in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, and then Dalhousie University in Halifax. At seventeen, she went to Nova Scotia, to work for a newspaper, the Halifax Chronicle, and wrote for its evening edition, the Echo. But Maud came back to rural Prince Edward Island to teach, and lived with her grandmother at Cavendish. It is this experience along with the lives of her farmer and fisher folk neighbours, that came alive when she wrote her 'Anne' books, beginning with Anne of Green Gables in 1908. First published as a serial for a Sunday school paper, Anne of Green Gables quickly became a favourite of readers throughout the world, so much so that L. M. Montgomery published eight novels in all featuring Anne Shirley and her family. Maud also wrote the popular Emily of New Moon in 1923 followed by two sequels, and Pat of Silver Bush in 1933 with its sequel. She and her husband, the Rev. Ewen Macdonald, eventually moved to Ontario. L. M. Montgomery died in Toronto in 1942, but it is her early years of lush green Prince Edward Island that live on in the delighful adventures of the impetuous redhead, the stories Mark Twain called "the sweetest creation of child life yet written."

Anne of the Green gables has been translated into seventeen different languages, made into a number of movies, and has had continuing success as a stage play.

The success of these productions inspired The road to Avonlea- enchanting new tales based on characters created by Lucy Maud Montgomery for a television series as well as the new paperback editions. She is also the author of The Further Chronicles of Avonlea, After Many Days, Magic For Marigold, among others.

The Last Juror

In 1970, Willie Traynor came to Clanton, Mississippi, in a Triumph Spitfire and a fog of vague ambitions. Within a year, the twenty- three year old found himself the owner of Ford County's only newspaper, famous for its well- crafted obituaries. While the rest of America was in the grips of turmoil, Clanton lived on the edge of another age- until the brutal murder of a young mother rocked the town and thrust Willie into the centre of a storm.

Daring to report the true horrors of the crime, Willie made as many friends as enemies in Clanton, and over the next decade he would sometimes wonder how he had gotten there in the first place. But he could never escape the crime that had shattered his innocence or the criminal whose evil had left an indelible stain. Because as the ghosts of the South's past gather around Willie, as tension swirls around Clanton, men and women who served on a jury nine years ago are strting to die one by one- as a killer exacts the ultimate revemge...

I really liked this book, and would recommend you to read it as well. It is interesting as well as light to read, wouldn't let you get bored but wouldn't hang on your mind and let you do whatever work you might be having without the urge to go and check just what happened next. I, in fact found it better than his books The Client and the Firm. Excellent for light reading at night as well as for boring afternoons on the veranda.

I know people that these Christmas greetings are late, but I wanted to share this little Christmas something which I found some time ago...

When carols fade in the silence of the night

Listen to a symphony of angelic delight;

Outside of the inns and inside of the out,

The word reveals what life is all about.

Switch off lights from the christmas tree,

Focus your gaze on the one who sets free;

In deep darkness engulfing our world,

Emerges Light, love's fullness unfurled.

Though table be laid and cold be a turkey,

Hasten to that manager, serene, yet murky.

The Family out there, 'mid many a beast,

Dares you to invite the least to your feast.

Give Santa a break, the child gives gifts,

Graces he bestows, sinful burdens He lifts

He taps at our door, for one gist let's plead.

Jesus Himself; is there more we will need?

Memories

The change is upon us now
Something deep inside
Hazy thoughts of yesterday
Dreams we cannot hide.

Like a wondrous, touching film
We see through colored glass
The lazy days of summer
The joy of summers past.

The first day of autumn
A castle on the sands
A monument to memories
To life held in our hands.
